Playwright Doug Wright (he of 'I AM MY OWN MOTHER' fame) is at WaterTower Theatre with his recent show 'GOOD NIGHT, OSCAR'--a story of the brilliant but troubled classical pianist, actor, and very out-there conversationalist Oscar Levant. In particular, it's about one day in 1958 when he was supposed to appear on host Jack Paar's classic version of THE TONIGHT SHOW. Getting from noon to night-time? With Oscar, that was a challenge. Saturday's one-day 'Fest O'Theatre: South Asian 2026' was a crowded day of drama, dance and artistry from the Indian subcontinent, presented by the locally-based Bengali theatre organization DFW Play --and expanded this year to include not only Bengali theater but works from Hindi, Tamil, Marathi and other cultures. The enthusiasm of the audience and the players--some of whom came from as far away as Washington D.C. and Boston--kept us all awake and engaged--and if I'm invited again, you'll find me there next year too. Congratulations to all involved!

All that's to say that his play 'ESCANABA IN DA MOONLIGHT' at Allen Contemporary Theatre gets a big thumbs-up from reviewer Carol M. Rice. You have this weekend and next to catch Daniels' comic but heart-filled story of a bunch of guys who keep up the family/friend traditions of their annual deer hunt out in "da woods" of Michigan's Upper Peninsula:
